THE CHALLENGE

A new brand needed a single, scalable source of truth

A new brand needed a single, scalable source of truth

CaringBridge was launching a new identity while redesigning the website, rebuilding iOS, and moving the design team from Sketch and InVision to Figma. Rather than recreate an aging UI library, we built a modern design system designed to support every digital product moving forward.

The previous system lived across disconnected files and libraries. Components became inconsistent, styles drifted, designers recreated patterns, developers interpreted designs differently, and mobile and desktop experiences diverged.

I helped translate the new brand into reusable components, maintained Figma libraries, standardized foundational styles, supported responsive web and iOS parity, and partnered with designers and engineers to improve adoption, documentation, and governance.

We established a consistent foundation for color, typography, spacing, elevation, border radius, iconography, and grid systems—giving every product team a reliable starting point.

Reusable components

From these foundations, we created buttons, inputs, dropdowns, cards, modals, navigation, tabs, alerts, chips, empty states, tooltips, and form elements—each designed for common states such as default, hover, active, disabled, loading, error, and success.

MIGRATING FROM SKETCH TO FIGMA

The move to Figma was more than a software migration. It centralized design files and component libraries, improved version control, enabled real-time collaboration, reduced duplicate work, and made handoff to engineering clearer as the product continued to evolve.

COLLABORATION & IMPACT

A design system is a shared language

A design system is a shared language

A design system is a shared language

The system became a shared resource for product designers, product managers, engineers, QA, brand and marketing, and leadership. Alignment around one visual language moved conversations away from debating UI details and toward solving user problems.

Brand consistency

Launched the new CaringBridge identity consistently across web and iOS.

Faster delivery

Reusable patterns reduced duplicated work and accelerated feature design and development.

Scalable governance

A durable foundation that could evolve alongside new products, features, and team needs.

Lessons learned

Lessons learned

A design system is not simply a library of components—it is a shared language that helps teams work more efficiently and deliver more consistent experiences. The work reinforced the value of balancing flexibility with governance, so the system can evolve without becoming hard to use.
